Churches and Religious Shrines

Barbaza Catholic Church, Barbaza - The most modern church in Antique in terms of architectural style.

Old Hispano-Filipino Church, Anini-y - A massive white coral building constructed by the Augustinian friars sometime in 1675-1880. One of the oldest landmarks and the only church of Spanish vintage still existing in Antique.

San Jose Cathedral, San Jose - Has the highest bell tower in Antique.

Sta. Rita Catholic Church, Sibalom - Houses a supine statue of Sta. Rita, a gift from the Augustinian sisters in Casica, Italy.

Sto. Nino Church, Hamtic - The church rests on an elevation; above it are a convent and a bell tower, which have winding steps among flowers. A wooded knoll sets off the scene.


Historical Sites

Estaca Hill, Bugasong - It has an elevation of about 200 feet with a view of the sea and the hills. The hill was once a watchtower to warn the people of the Muslim pirates.

Evelio B. Javier Freedom Park, San Jose - Marks the spot where the late Gov. Evelio B. Javier was shot dead on February 11, 1986 while defending freedom and democracy from the forces of martial law.

Malandog Marker, Hamtic - Built within the campus of Malandog Elementary School, the marker reads: "Landing site of the first Malayan settlers 1200 A.D."

St. Agustin's High School, Patnongon - Used to be a Spanish convent remodeled into a school run by Mill Hill Missionaries.


Major Attractions

Batabat Coral Reef, Barbaza - It has 1-1/2-hectare of varied colored coral seen through clear waters.

Bugtong Bukid, Sebaste - A hill with a rest house made of nipa and bamboo on top.

Cresta de Gallo, Anini-y - Called "Punta Nasog" by natives, this denuded mountain is shaped like a rooster's crown and believed to be rich in mineral deposit. At its foot lie the scenic beaches of Rendon and Bantique.

Danao Lake, San Regimio - A place located in the high mountains of San Remigio that is ideal for hunting.

Kalamasag Falls, Sebaste - One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Panay about 36 meters high.

Malumpati Health Spring, Pandan - Spring water collects in a small lake and believed to have healing powers.

Mt. Madia-as, Culasi - Measures 2,117 m above sea level and climbed by penitents during holy Week. The ascent entails crossing narrow wood bridges, clambering up steep slopes and warding off leeches, but rewards you with a breathtaking scenery when you reach the top.

Nogas Island - A 26-hectare navaI reservation island with a lighthouse, white sand beach and lots of corals and shell. Located 3 miles from the shoreline of Anini-y town proper.

Pula Waterfalls, San Regimio - Red-tinted water cascades down the waterfalls.

Semirara Island, Caluya - Has the second largest deposit of coal in the Philippines. It has a bird sanctuary; a place ideal for horseback riding.
